JODO - Shindo Muso Ryu with Shimizu Sensei

IAIDO - Muso Shinden Ryu with Nagamoto Sensei

Recently, the  Rembukan Dojo celebrated its twentieth anniversary.  The journey has been inspiring.  Our website first introduced in 1996 has come a long way too.  We've learned that the site is more than a reflection of our efforts inside the dojo. It is an important "kanban" (billboard) that offers us an opportunity to let interested parties learn more about us and what we do.

The idea of the Rembukan Dojo was first raised by my Jodo teacher, Shimizu Takaji Sensei of the original Rembukan Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Shimizu Sensei wanted to see good Jodo flourish all over the world.  Accepting such a kanban was not taken lightly and we continue to try and strive towards the ideals he tried to instill in us.

When we opened our gates near Annapolis, Maryland over two decades ago, our stated purpose was to promote the advancement of two arts originating in 16th century Japan: Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo, a method of stick fighting and Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido a sword drawing art . Kaminoda Sensei affirmed permission for usage of the name Rembukan in 1988.

Our objective is to earnestly learn and perpetuate these wonderful Japanese budo within the context of Western culture.
